When you think about Mississippi State recruiting, the first state to jump out at you would probably not be New Jersey. However, one of the top players in the Garden State for 2013 recently received a Mississippi State offer and that really got his attention. At 6 foot 2 215 pounds, Buddy Brown is a tackling machine. He is a leader on and off the field for Williamstown High School. Brown has several offers from all across the country, but an offer from a Southeastern Conference school has grabbed his attention and has him thinking about Starkville, MS.
Landing an offer from the Bulldogs was kind of a shock for Brown, who also has offers from Boston College, North Carolina, Penn State, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, South Florida, Wake Forest, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Knowing that most of his offers are from ACC and Big Ten country, you would think that Brown would be looking up that way. But Mississippi State’s offer might have been a blessing in disguise.
“The offer from Mississippi State caught me off guard,” said Brown. “They called and talked to me for a few minutes and spent a lot of time on the phone with my dad. They told me how much that they wanted me and that I had an offer. I want to go to a school where the coaches are planning on being there for a while. Coach Mullen and Coach Wilson plan on being there for a while so that was big for me.”
“With Mississippi State being in the SEC, that really got my attention,” said Brown. “You can tell that they are building for the future. Mississippi State is a team on the rise. You can tell they are in a place where they are going to get better, they are not going to go backwards. I for sure plan on coming to camp and junior day at MSU. I want to check things out in Mississippi. They are my first SEC offer and that means a lot to me. The stability of the coaching staff is a huge thing for me. Playing in another region like the south is for sure something that I would do. I can go down south and play where the weather is warm. I have always felt like if you can start in the SEC, you can start in the NFL.”
Brown finished his junior campaign with over 70 tackles and 3 sacks. He is a player that Bulldawgjunction.com will keep a close eye on for the class of 2013.
